Sydney comes alive in the cooler months, too. In Autumn, Vivid Sydney lights up the harbour with interactive light shows, breathtaking projections and more, while Bondi Winter Magic easily lures locals off the couch with its pop-up outdoor ice rinks, food stalls, workshops and more.

If you're looking for a festival for the whole family, you'll find pop culture conventions and science shows to check out. There are also contemporary arts festivals for the kids - and the Australian International Music Festival, a popular educational event for school and community music groups in June and July.

run throughout the year in Pyrmont, Darlinghurst, Fox Studios and Carriageworks in the inner west - and you'll find multicultural food festivals too. The International Food Safari is held in June and July, and Crave Sydney International Food Festival in October serves up a whole month of food events, cooking classes, picnics, and of course, the iconic Night Noodle Markets.
